edit: The title might be slightly off - some things are saying the glacier experienced a rapid melt, others are saying it broke. Maybe both.

As per Uttarakhand Disaster Mitigation & Management Centre:
-Rishi Ganga water got blocked due to glacier debris. Lake formation happened
-Lake breached today and caused flash flood.

It'll be interesting to see where the glacier break was in relation to the Indian and Chinese troops.
