k so i tried SC2 again and i didnt even get to play the game, right when i pushed enter for my password my comp shut off. I turned off auto restart

I'm wondering if my mouse could be playing a part in this, cuz its acting a bit weird when i go into the game and it's a after market RAZER mouse.

Do you have ATI overdrive enabled in Catalyst? I had almost the same issue with my 3000 series ATI card when I used the auto-tune feature in overdrive. It would play [HTML_REMOVED]5 seconds of the intro to COD and then it would shut my machine down abruptly.

The zergs have taken over your system. Is the inside of the box slimy?

Only other thing to consider is the Power Supply being overdrawn…that also does a cold shutdown.

This would make sense as it seems to be getting worse. Adam, if you can get hold of another power supply (borrow one), give that a try.

On a lot of machines, the CPU temp can be checked from a BIOS setup page. It's a good place to check it as the CPU is spinning pretty hard on that page. Windows will ask the CPU to throttle back.

It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities.

In my experience (which is a bit, but not a lot) whenever the sudden crashes start on a PC it is either overheating, problems with the power supply, or the mobo (look for blown capacitors). I can't remember a trojan or malware that caused a sudden shutdown (although I am sure it is possible). Basically my money is on hardware.

Good luck.

Glad to hear it was as simple as that! Heh, rule #1 when beginning to run hardware diagnostics on a computer….remove all third party devices!

I still say overheating. There's a known bug where the FE screens aren't framerate-restricted that's causing people's video cards to work overtime.

Ya, me too. I had a laptop that overheated and I kept thinking I solved the problem, and then it would pop up again a few days later. In the end I had to leave it on my deck (it was a cold winter -7 or so) and transfer everything off it to a new laptop. I have seen driver errors cause a freeze but a shutdown is usually overheating.
