It is a pity that the Mi-17 isn't certified to fly in the US and Canada. It's a nearly indestructible, rugged helicopter. Unfortunately all of the gauges and flight controls (and manuals, and repair manuals, etc) are all in Russian. I've only ever seen them flown by Russians, Bulgarians, Ukrainians, etc. An empty Mi-17 can seat more than 20 men or lift a shitload of weight, and the huge rear doors make it easy to get bulky stuff in and out of it.

We did a EFIS install on a mi17 when I worked for KFC. Was a pretty cool machine. There was a hatch in the floor you pulled out and the longline connected directly to the bottom of the transmission. We put a jeep in the back once. Crazy Russian pilots too!

We have some Mi-26 here as well! Mi-8 is a pretty common helicopter, widely used in Siberia for lots of works
