Actually I'd say skip the discman (unless thats the only device you plan on using them witth) and use one of their stereos. Some high-end headphones have high impedance and a portable player can't properly drive them.

If you can't drive it with your discman, it's probably not the best for travel…
Tons of people I talked to said anything portable won't drive sr80's very well… They work amazing on my iPod…
Unless you're buying studio cans, they should be fine…
