So, i got the whole set up, TV, HD box, Blue ray , the whole enchilada….with a hefty price tag to access all the HD programing. Beautiful, but now i only want to watch shit in HD…effectively aborting 90% of the channels i choose to pay more for. BUT, it smells like HD in here when hockey and supercross is on!!!!

Its win-loose? Not bitching, but 100% HD programing will be sweet.

WTF, Over?

I've been 99% HD for about 4 years now. Everything else looks like schit. Sometimes there's something on a non-HD channel that I want to watch, so I put up with crapD for the odd program.

put a PS3 on the list to fill it out.

You mean with an HD box from Shaw or Telus, you still get channels that aren't HD? Weak.

It was a PS3, but im counting that as a Blue ray too. Shaw gives you quite a few, but there is many that are not HD. Yes is is weaksauce, hopefully they fill in more HD channels in the future.

Do you have a good audio receiver/speaker setup? If not, I suggest you start working on that, and then work towards getting everything running on HDMI for even more awesome.

Either that or just amuse yourself with some HD porn on bluray until the other channels get their shit together.

I upgraded to HD last year with a 50 Panasonic plasma, and find I too am a HD snob, but it really depends on the TV. Some TV's show the crapD alot better than others, mine is great for this, some of my friends tv's… not so much!

I have a buyer from work whose interested, anyhoo. But honestly, I would suggest that if you want to slowly build up a "future ready" system, then you don't want my old AVR. No HDMI inputs/switching, no lossless audio codecs. It's a great receiver, but already out of date.

Am I an "HD snob" if I mock the stupidity of people who buy a wide screen TV, but only subscribe to SD channels and run the TV in stretch mode? I find it annoying to watch programming where all the people look like short, stocky gnomes because of the distortion from stretching the picture.

Yah, when I bought the Denon 4-5 yrs ago, they were just thinkinging about putting HDMI switching into the AVR. It only started showing up on the high end stuff about 6 months after I bought it, then percolated down to the mid end gear about 6-12 months after that!

Always just a bit behind the curve … With the Pioneer I'm trying to get ahead - buy higher end, get the features I want plus some new stuff that's just hitting the market. Like an Ethernet port for connecting to home network so you can stream internet TV and radio from your PC to the home theater. And an ipod dock for connecting directly to the digital stream from the ipod, rather than listening to audio via the cheap $10 DAC built into the ipod.
