I was back in Vancouver for thanksgiving, and the topic of guns and their availability in the US came up.

Without turning this into a political debate, I'm curious to hear what a little bigger sample size of Canadians think.

1) How easy is it to buy an automatic rifle in the US?

2) Do you have to go through a background check to buy a new gun in the US.

3) Is the bill of rights still relevant, or is the constitution just a piece of paper?

1) Dunno, don't really care
2) Dunno, don't really care
3) A better question to ask is how many amendments have been done and if that answer is greater than one, why would it be a good time to stop now?

1.) If you're not a felon, and rich enough to jump through all the hoops for NFA.

2.) Yeah, which why they got what'ca call the "iron pipeline" from states in the SE with lax gun laws to the NE megalopolis.

3.) Bill of Rights been shredded for a long time now. What's your point?

Points 1 & 2 above superseded by the Dark Web.

1. Full auto? Legal but difficult and typically very expensive

2. Depends where you live I think this is one of the biggest faults with US gun laws; the lack of consistency between jurisdictions.

3. Relevant to most Americans

It's totally okay for Trump to stomp all over the first amendment, but by christ, don't you dare monkey with the second!

But, but.... Chicago!

Guys on Fox News always bring up Chicago. It has some of the strictest gun laws.

They had an anti gun person on their show who proceeded to point out that 80% of guns used in crime come from out of state. She was immediately cut off.

That is utterly tasteless and disrespectful, as always.

At a gun show in the US you can buy a semi auto at one table, then you can go a few tables down and buy the kit to make it fully auto (from a different guy). But they can't sell you the fully auto.

I've been to several dozen gun shows across 3 states. Not once have I seen the conversion kit to turn a semi auto rifle into full auto.I'm not saying they don't exist, but they aren't as common as you appear to think.

On top of that, whoever did make that conversion would be committing a felony.

SSAR-15 plus bump firing is 900 rounds per minute, and that's good enough.

You reap what you sow. Americans manufacture a lot of guns, a lot of Americans are gonna get shot.

Obviously they got too many guns down there but do more Americans get shot with automatic weapons or Handguns?
