In terms of firearms laws in Canada, these recent change are more about tickling the emotional fringe of the debate than making change that will have a beneficial effect. I'd even argue that it's more a negative effect as it will do more to piss off reasonable firearms owners than anything else. I think we'd get more benefit by making changes to the registration/monitoring process than fretting over minor changes to what firearms are allowed.

My decision to purchase them is frankly none of your business. I broke no laws and depending on the results of the next election this will all end up getting reversed anyways.

Why are you such a dick to me these days?  It just doesn't seem wise to invest in a collection assault style rifles at the moment.

Done on the same day as a past shooting incident anniversary. Nothing says political PR stunt saying “Look we cared and did something “ while doing nothing.

Ok I'll answer your original question. Because I'm an idiot. Happy? How else was I supposed to respond?

Everyone else is discussing the policy itself not making it about me.

BTW I don't own a single "assault" rifle.

I know you well enough to know you are not an idiot.  I realize that I was being a bit saucy with my question, but I thought it was more "Haha, you got me there" rather than "None of your business".  Anything you post here is open game.  you know that.  This antagonism goes back to you accusing me of racism and I have avoided replying to you until today.

You made this about you when you said that most of your collection is now nothing but a headache, which I assume is because most of your guns are on the new list.  I said "assault style" because I assume that is what these guns are in the minds of the Liberals banning them.  What else should I call them?

For the record, I don't support these bans either.  I don't care what people's gun looks like.

Ok fair enough. I guess I didn't really think I was accusing you of being a racist more like suggesting that to some people it's a bit weird when someone starts counting how many white people seem to be missing from a photo op. Even if it feels like an intentional decision it's still weird to me when someone points it out. That's all. I never meant to imply you were a bad person or anything. In this day and age having racial biases isn't actually a scathing indictment of character. Progressives have mostly figured out that's a losing strategy but every so often it might be good to ask people to question "why do I actually care how many white people are in this political photo op?

I'm sorry if it seemed like I was being a dick to you specifically. I'm probably just a dick in general lol

To be more honest about your original question I actually went in to the gun purchases knowing this could happen at any time. I understood the risk and accepted it because I enjoy shooting guns. As for now the amnesty for buyback is in December 2025 which will be after the next election. I'm gonna keep them locked up at home as per the law and see what happens. If it sticks I will hand them all in for buyback and put all the money into hawk tuah coin. I think a better term for the kind of guns being banned in Canada right now is "sporting rifle" they have a military look because they are designed to be able to accept modern accessories like red dot optics and lights but they are not built to withstand the heat and abuse of a sustained firefight. If I dumped six 30 round mags out of my wk-181 it would cook the shit out of the barrel and it would never shoot straight again because its not designed for that which goes goes for most ar-15s as well. Actual battle guns like the M4 wouldn't have this problem. An assault rifle by definition has select fire which includes full auto.

Sorry for all the edits. I'm unfortunately going through a relapse and am drunk

You haven't been looking that closely behind the counter then.

Ok, i had to look again...seems to me like the general criteria was pics on the web for scary guns. (Which typically look that way as a product of simplicity)

Not sure i need or want a chinese service rifle though.

Could have sworn i saw 22 savage on the list, will that mean my daughters pink one is now illegal?

Nope. The pink gsg 16 is prohibited despite being a 400 dollar plastic piece of junk that shoots .22

You can however buy the much better ruger 10/22 that does the exact same thing. But it's got a classic wooden stock so it's fine.
