I "worked from home" today and low and behold - I ended up at the range around lunchtime. Huh. It was foggy as heck, I was the only one there, and I had a whole bunch of solo time planned for my new CZ 452 Ultralux.

All groups were shot offhand with factory open sights, trying different ammo types. I've found my UL prefers CCI Standard Velocity or CCI Blazer - any jacketed bullets are not predictable. I can only imagine what this thing could do with bags or a stand and a scope.

If you look through the fog in the middle of the picture you can just make out my target stand - that is what I was shooting at when it was at 100 metres.

First 5 groups of 5 shots at 25 metres (not yards). All groups except top right was with CCI Standard Velocity

Best 50 metre group of 10 shots

Best 100 metre 10 shot group - though some rounds came up from the bottom target; I was getting tired of trying to see the target through the fog by the time this groups was over.

100 metre targets - all were 10 shot groups, or at least they were supposed to be groups

I was just about to leave but decided to run some more mags through my MKIII Hunter and my fourth round in on the first mag the shot didn't sound right, so I unloaded and had a peek and hoping not to seeā€¦..yup, a squib. First time this has happened to me with a .22LR. When I stripped my gun at home later there was unburned gunpowder all throughout my pistol. That could have turned out worse, I imagine.

good thing you were paying attention bud could have ended much worse.

The raw, primitive, unrefined trails that see little to no maintenance are the kinds of trails that really build skill. What kind of skills do you learn riding a trail that was made by a machine, groomed to perfection and void of any rocks, roots or other obstacles that could send you careening over the handlebars?

When I saw all the powder dropping out of my pistol when I took the barrel off is when my eyes opened a little wider and I realized how different this might have ended. I was always taught to KNOW your guns and if ANYTHING doesn't sound/feel/look right, then stop and check everything is safe before you shoot.

see now this is the good info to get from this thread.

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

Any good instructor will teach you the same info, but its a matter of people putting it to practice.

From advice of others, I decided to order some Birchwood Casey Lead Remover cloths from the States (they don't sell them here). The cloths finally showed up in the mail, so I thought I would try them on my SP101 cylinder. I have never tried to clean the front of the cylinder other than a quick wipe and I got the gun with the front all black. Not even ten minutes of wiping with the cloth and it looks new again. I'm impressed and I recommend these to anyone with stainless guns.

A little out of focus but you can see how black the cylinder face was before cleaning:

And then after using the Birchwood Casey lead cloth for under ten minutes:

And cease the regulation of body armour while they are at it. It's like needing a licence to wear a helmet on a bicycle.

One can only hope the AR15 is next. Not likely but one can dream.

I've never bought from Irunguns, but lots of people have and seem to like their service. For import service, I use Aztech Armory. Our dollar just sucks so bad right now, you can probably find what you like up north here cheaper. Other than that, I try to buy local but do shop online a bit if need be.

Whatcha looking for?

Thompson Mountain is good, less strict then Poco Hunting and Fishing club, but super slippery in the fall winter to get up there. They host a ton of events like steel matches and IPSC stuff. Or you can rip out to Abbotsford hunting and fishing club, they have a really nice open indoor range for pistols.

Im a member at Poco since its easy for me to get there. I had to get certified for the lower ranges and get my IPSC black badge to use a holster on them, a bit of a hassle but worth it. The RO's are pretty good there.

I buy local usually, since almost all the local shops have a web store, you get good pricing nearly everywhere these days.

I would probably stay away from IRG unless you absolutely cant find what they have, the dollar is going to kill you.
