fuck you, you shitty disease!

The Hip were by far my favourite band a lot of years ago through out high school and university, haven't listened to them as much since, but Gord's release with The Sadies a couple years ago got me fired up for them again, loved seeing The Hip at the first pemby fest a bunch of years ago, and Gord and the Sadies here in Whistler recently…really hope he doesn't suffer too much

Sad news indeed. I also saw the Hip at Pemberton 2008 and they killed it, especially Gord.

yeah will be a huge loss. I didn't buy the last two albums but used to be at the record store getting their albums the day of release. Saw them in maple leaf gardens, Another Roadside Attraction, Ohio, Pennsylvania in various venues. So many great songs scattered in their collection never played on the radio. So many great bootlegs too. Great showman and improviser for sure

I once spent an entire day watching Robert Altman direct the Hip performing Poets for a TV Pilot written by Gary Trudeau. (Jump to 27:45 to see them perform.) I think it was at Richard's. The footage is pretty underwhelming and I remember wanting to stick a fork in my ear everytime I heard Poets after that but Gord Downey was super funny guy and well versed. Getting to spend time with him gave me a greater respect for him as a man. He will definitely be part of the Canadian Arcana forever.

Sad news indeed. I have seen them a half dozen times and he never failed to entertain. Pemberton was pretty great and they were followed by Tom Petty. I won't forget that.

He's not dead yet so I will hopefully get another show in.

I am not going to claim to be a hip fan, but there was a moment in my life when road apples got a lot of play. downie can write some great lyrics for sure.

Just a speculative fiction. No cause for alarm.

Highway Girl Live double suicide rant is truly a great moment in music history.

When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity.

When many people suffer from a delusion, it is called religion.

I wasn't a huge fan but then I saw them live in Amsterdam and they put on a great show. they had a huge following in the Netherlands and the shows were always a great vibe. me and a buddy ended up following them around different dutch cities and catching their live shows. it was a fun way to see a country.

the ontario rock stations used to play that and killer whale tank a lot as i'm sure most southern ontarians know. never knew if they did the same across the country, or maybe it was a local thing. a couple of my bootlegs were just ripped from q107 concerts on the radio. so good

Wow. Bet their cd's are selling like hotcakes.

Freedom of contract. We sell them guns that kill them; they sell us drugs that kill us.

I saw them at the Town Pump, the Commodore and T-bird stadium. Good times from a great rock and roll band.

those live versions just really brought across a super hard driving edge, forgot how much I loved those tracks from their early stuff until listening to them again today
