E36 parts are extremely plentiful, the cost to replace my fuel pump was $580 with labor and a new fuel filter.

$580 for a fuel pump replacement is cheap? Is that because they threw in the filter?

Uhhh… Upgraded the fuel pump in my old car to something seriously oversized for about $120, took 15 minutes to put in. It didn't include a fuel filter though! :grinno:

My bet would be the latter.

shouldnt Rosco rename the thread to reflect as such?

I sent junior some cash, his step father came up to help … they had a boring automatic cavalier/sunfire or some fucking thing in about 2 or 3 days … I mean this isnt rocket biology

If I did it myself, I could've got it done for $125, but when it's your only vehicle, waiting a week and a few days for a pump to come in the mail isn't worth it, I had it done the next day, time is money.

The fuel pump price is relative to a broader spectrum than Rossco is looking at, Suburban fuel pumps are $1000+.

Yup, very true. Most GM vehicles have them in the gas tank, and that means dropping the whole tank and anything else in the way to replace it. The pumps are cheap, the 4+ hours to get it done at GM @ $120/hr shop rate is what kills you.

So it's mostly labour? Is it like this for most new vehicles?

Last time I replaced a fuel pump was on my dad's 64 Pontiac. It was mechanical, and took about 20 minutes to do.
