Your answer is simple in thought but the practical nature of your rationalization that a massive coverup is taking place, orchestrated by this 'big money', is a leap that just can't work. A better explanation is that the conditions around the site, post disaster, are so difficult and dangerous that collecting the insane amount of information (safely) to make an stable and accurate picture is unbelievably difficult. Designing and building a nuke reactor takes decades under the best working conditions… finding out how bad it is after something like that blows up is neither going to be definitive or quick. Additionally, we are an inherently and naturally optimistic bunch when we don't have enough information to say otherwise.

I'll settle for: the Japanese need much more time to figure out how bad it actually is and I trust that they are working on it as fast as they can. In the meantime, treehugger.com an go f^[HTML_REMOVED]k itself with it's fear mongering unless they want to grab a nuclear physics degree, a Geiger counter and stroll into reactor 3 for a looksy on how much fuel melted.

Conspiracies boil a large complex idea into simple easily understandable (and hence rational) notions and in that, they provide a level of comfort that is nonfalsifiable. They also all share the same 'symptom' among supporters in which their ideas are grandiose and all encompassing in both cause and effect while citing a vague entity 'the man' as being the puppet master behind the existence of their theory (eg: aliens, 9/11 inside job, chem-trails).

This is what I don't get. It seems to me that they miss the concept that such theories require a computer-like manipulation of 1000s of people who have direct involvement, in hundreds of non-similar businesses/organizations, with total ancillary control of the flow of information of at least hundreds of thousands of people in a secondary contact role to the puppet (assuming friends/family of about 150 people per puppet). If single a will can control such a vast and complex system without the majority finding out, then free will does not exist. And if freewill does exist, then why is it only a few members of society are 'gifted' enough to pick up on these machinations?, which by definition makes them extreme outliers to what is normal making it more plausible that they, in fact, are the delusional ones.
