I just wanted a handgun to go shoot at the range.
What’s wrong with renting one at the range?
First world problems
Trust firearm owners far more then the average person operating a car.

Drive a vehicle into a crowd of people. Well that was done in 2018. Still no assault Ryder Rent A Van registry or permits required.
Nothing worse than all those unregistered cube vans driving around by people without permits. /s

The remaining guns are used for hunting? Not so sure about that...
This is just an example of two non-restricted firearms that we can still buy. The wk 180c is chambered in 7.62 x 39 which is the same as used in an ak-47. It can penetrate most body armor. Legally I'm not even limited to the range with this. I can take it plinking in the woods according to canadian gun laws.
The shotgun has a 12" barrel which isn't legal in an of the United States but again I can carry this thing around anywhere the discharge of firearms is legal.
I'm all for gun control I just don't really understand all the ways we go about it.
Maybe not all of them are, but you get what I am saying. The shotgun might not be a hunting rifle but it is still a useful gun for people that spend time in the bush. My point was just that I don't think the Liberals are going to go any further. The average person that never uses or sees a gun is not afraid of hunters, they are afraid of mass shootings (assault rifles) and gang bangers (handguns).
I don't really get it either, but I also don't care that handguns are banned. I lost a buddy from a handgun and I have never seen any real use for them in the general public. Same more or less with assault weapons. I have been told many times that it is stupid to ban assault weapons because it is just cosmetic, but if it is just cosmetic that means people can still get the same thing without the assault weapon look. This is Canada and we regulate things. I am more pissed off that weed is legal but there are a million restrictions on what I can buy and how much. But hey... it's legal which is better than before. My life hasn't changed.

Ditto, and that's a good point. Suicide rates will tumble with restricted access to handguns as guns are used in most suicides. As much as a 50% reduction in other countries.
First world problems at their worst eh.
there are forestry workers in the bush who carry defenders with a pistol grip

In Canada short barreled shotguns are the suicide weapon of choice.
Handguns require a restricted PAL and range/club membership to.purchase and are more expensive.
Good point. 80% of suicides in Canada are with guns, 20% of those are with handguns. Jeez this sucks.
When I was kid 30% of suicides in Canada involved guns. The American gun lobby has accomplished a lot.
This is a depressing problem.
What happened to complaining about not being able to get matching purple anodized parts.
can’t jump in front of a train if there are none

It does suck. To make it even more tragic the problem south of the border is really concentrated in specific states. Apparently, Texas is basically a free for all now and there are countless stories of shootings at parties and bars.

Yeah they tell you all the suicide stats during the firearms safety course. Then on the form your 3 references have to fill out, there's a huge square with a phone number where you can leave an anonymous "red flag" tip if you think the applicant could be a harm to themselves or others.
It is also a felony to not disclose any major adverse life events in your application like a break-up, divorce, job loss, financial setback etc...

Apologies if harsh but it has been a long week dealing with a few details.
Cold hard reality is weapons restrictions will some what help prevent some who seek to end their pain. But in honest truth after three years of dealing with our mental illness care it is an easy out from doing the actual hard part. The hard part is addressing the abysmal mental illness supports and mental illness health care that exists. There is pretty much nothing available even for a simple counsellor to even just talk about things. Why? Counsellors cost $150 to $200 an hour. So unless you are of the correct financial privilege or are fortunate enough to have a job that will give you some kid of coverage well good luck to you. Restricting weapons to prevent someone from ending their pain from mental illness is easy but doesn't do shit to address the failure of our Provincial and Federal health care to proved for decades any actual aid to those suffering from mental illness before they get to the point of that's it can't take the pain any more. But it is amazing how no one is caring about the fact while restricting and banning something it is also allow those in pain from mental illness to continue to suffer with zero aid.
And I fucking hate this calling it suicide. It completely diminishes the fact that someone suffering from mental illness like depression, PTSI, and what ever other mental illness is in fact in pain. Just because they can't point to a specific spot and say it hurts me here when pointing at their head. Reality is one who is suffering from the pain of mental illness is tired of being in pain and wants it to stop or in some cases want the limb removed that is causing the mental illness pain. So let's call it what they are actually doing...ending their pain.
And if you actually cared about decreasing the chances of those fighting mental illness from getting to the point of ending their pain. You lot would be demanding at the same level for mental illness support for those fighting their mental illness before they become a statistic of those who ended their pain.
And yes I do admit have been down that dark hole several times in the last three years so speak with hard earned experience. How dark? Considering having my right leg amputated....wishing the person had taken my right leg... saying to my wife that wish the driver had killed me so I wasn't a burden...and whatever else can't remember while at a level 9 on a scale of 1-10. Fighting mental illness which is one's brain is painful and exhausting. And to e brutally honest none of this gun restrictions does absolutely fucking nothing to help anyone basically fighting their brain. It gives no mental illness health care which is desperately needed.
As a veteran buddy said in 2019...if you have mental illness and are fighting it every day your a warrior.

It isn't just gun lobby. Reality is abysmal mental illness health care available.
Man that was well said, and well appreciated. Keep fighting the good fight.
We went through it with my Pops and his two closest buddies. Help is just not there, even for combat veterans. There's a reason John Stewart was hopping mad, if you have first hand experience with trying to get someone help you realize what a bunch of BS it is that support is easy to access. We're in the US and had to write a Senator to get the ball moving for him.
Personally for my relatively minir physical problems I just cry to my physical therapist about my issues lol, absolutely miniscule stuff compared to what some like Endurimil are going through. Even my small stuff is depressing enough though. 12 years ago ruptured patella/shattered knee cap that they weren't able to repair properly, quad muscles paralyzed and never really came back. I got one stick leg and it stays asleep for the first part of every bike ride. Just biking for physical activities. Can no longer walk far, hike, run, etc. even swimming had to quit.
Back to the topic. Despite all that, I tell you if you get a hold of a suicide prevention program that program consists of first thing removing the gun from your house.
One of my Dad's buddies left all of his guns at our house when he was low, the other who was his best buddy since childhood kept them close. He didn't make it, we lost him shortly before losing my Father to Agent Orange. My best buddy from college went last year. I was with him when he bought the handgun years ago.

Phoof. Ok, first world hmm... nevermind was going to complain about the "carpenter" working on my house, as clueless as they come. Same overly confident completely incompetent asshole that fixes the bikes. Just cut a door handle hole into a solid core door that doesn't line up with the lock hole.
Seems like a lot (not all) of the young workers don't have the work ethic or engagement that previous generations had. It's a "what can you do for me?" attitude, when it should be the other way around.
i stayed in the hospiz at bernina pass overnight and have no intentions to head out to bike again because it’s cold :/
