In many places in 'merica, DA's are elected. How do you prove to an misundereducated electorate that you're the best qualified? By being tough on crime. Best way to get/retain the stupid dumb fucks attention? Kill people. Guilt being irrelevant.

Musk doesn't have money, he has stock and stock options. He takes miminal salary, and uses lines of credit to pay personal living expenses.

Yeah, just theoretical. 

Musk makes that argument, yet buys shit like the Lotus from the Spy Who Loved Me for a million dollars. 

He's doing better than Bezos maybe and his $40 million clock, etc. 

The self discipline not to buy a million dollar movie prop on a whim is a struggle all of us without money go through at some point

The salary thing is a tax dodge pure and simple.  Why take a million dollar salary and get taxed at top marginal rate when you can get taxed at a Capital Gains rate (50%) when you sell a million bucks in stock.
