Even less MRI availability

I was told 2011 for my MRI. The doctor said I could get in fairly quickly if I do a private one for about $750.

The good news is that if I get the MRI he can do surgery as soon as Feb.

Yeah, I was really surprised to hear that. I was expecting a really long wait.

I'm having my right wrist done.

My uncle paid $500 to get an MRI of his knee done just last week.

one of our clients does MRIs. If I needed one and they jerked me around I'd just turn off the spam filter for a few days :)

Well. after 3 months of pain and hobbling around with a brace I now have only a consultation booked with an orthopedic surgeon. OH BOY!! Only then I get on a 9+ month wait list for an MRI and then another 16-18 months for surgery… at least after the consult I can at least get a referreal for a private MRI. I'd already have a private one done but you need a referral for a private MRI???? It's my fucking money….why the hell do you need a referral??

Starting to lose faith in our overloaded system… if a person is even remotely able to work they don't seem to give a shit. A guy at work blew his knee out last winter and he has had three surgeries and a blood clot removed so he can be a "productive" member of society… In retrospect I should have just been a lazy fuck and sat on my ass….My ankle would probably be fixed by now…

Well… A little update on this rant.

Finally got in for surgery on Oct 18th… Over 2 YEARS after the injury. Just got the surgeons OK to go back to work next week.

I originally had a September surgery date but there was no way I could make it. I was then told I would be at the back of the waiting list again… ANOTHER year minimum wait.

So, I went back to work for a couple weeks… Then I went to my family doctor and firmly told him I was in too much pain to work and I demanded a note for an indefinite time off work. His response… "Whoah… I'm sure we can work something out. Here's a note for a week off and someone will be in touch with you"

Within 48 hours _I was called with an appointment for two weeks_ later…

NEVER AGAIN will I tough it out and return to work with an injury. Within our socialist healthcare system you are immediatly bumped to the bottom of the list if you are a productive member of society…lesson learned!

I don t think that 100$ for staffing is that retarded. From what I remember of my MRI at ubc. The front desk was the same person as the tech (Maybe because it was 6h30 in the morning). I think overall she spent maybe 30mn max on my case. If she makes 40$/hour that 20$. Then there is the radiologist. Granted it took him 5 years to learn how to read the damn scan, but to actually read it and write a quick report. I think he can do at least three an hour. Let s say he makes 100$/hr (that s pretty damn good no?) it end up being only 33$ for my case. We are here only at 53$ I think it leaves some room for other people to do some work too…
As for the Ninja electricians if you do one or ten scans it is the same cost.
Anyway, I just think it is sad that we do have such fantastic machines and can't access them…

Just to put it into perspective. This is where I work and we are constantly running tests for scanner updates on both the GE 1.5T and Siemens 3T. I am laid into the tube on a weekly basis as part of the job. When I blew my knee with a Trifecta injury a few years back I had to wait almost 10 months for an MRI.

I work at an MRI facility, go through scans to make sure software is running correct, know all the techs and Rads personally. And I still waited 10 months to get a scan for my knee…

I feel everyone's pain in waiting for an MRI here in BC.

Or just pay the 500-750 for an MRI and get it next week

wow, I knew a guy and got in, in a couple weeks in 2007… Is that 3T still just a research one, or diagnostic? I used to work on the old magnet at UBC, and helped install one of the ones at St Paul's, well 10yrs ago.

Are you part of the Physics group out there or part of Radiology? I'm not going to RSNA this year, kinda bummed.

This year I went to UBC sports med for my knee and got an MRI done 1.5 month later. Not too bad of a wait at all… I also didn't pay anything. Not too shabby really.
