Wow. $2 billion in stock sale to aid in trying to get the Model 3 out the door, and it's likely not enough.

I've had mine for over two years and never had a fault, never been stuck on the side of the road. My sample size of one trumps your sample size of one.
In other news …
So serious…I thought it was funny that his $150k battery-powered car died in under 30kms due to battery problems, figured I'd take a dig at typical american auto manufacturing quality at the same time.

Plus, $1 billion available in cash or cash equivalents.
Plus, expected 80-90k Model S and X deliveries this year, at average 23% margin, means at least $1.5 billion in free cash flow. Plus deliveries next year, plus opening up sales in at least seven new countries this year and next - India, Brazil, South Africa, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, and Ireland.

This is just too much fun, Model X drag race vs. Alpha 4C (Italian supercar).

I have no idea how they manage to handle that accel without tearing the hitch right the hell off. Be interesting to do some stress tests of those metals after a few runs.

Two more years before the Model 3? Until then, what's Tesla doing with all that deposit money?

No, one more year to first deliveries. Two more years if you put down a deposit and reserve TODAY.
The deposit money is held in trust until purchase, or refunded (without interest) when a reservation holder cancels.

I'm really unsure if I'm more excited about that the Model III means for commuting, or if the first BMW i3/i8 derived drivetrain showing up in a somewhat sporty Hyundai is going to be the tipping point.
On-demand torque is just such a fun thing, but for highway use a small turbocharged ICE is just unbeatable for energy density.
Model 3 AWD production is slated to begin this spring. Who knows when it'll actually start with the production delays.
More interested in the pick-up dream Musk said he has on twitter a few days ago.
When the big 3 start producing electric for real they will bury Tesla.
Who wants their proprietary plug anyways?

Going to be interesting how the public reacts to self driving cars. Many people really identify with what car they drive, for example the valley boys here at work with their giant lifted dodge pick ups, if they can't drive around like obnoxious dicks what is the point of having one? If somehow in the years to come self driving cars become a law how do the car companies market a car for the driving experience? Will we even own cars or just order one to pick us up and take us to our required destination? I can't see this happening without legal battles out the yin yang. As much as I like the tech I'm not sure this will come into play for many years.
