Short story: Musk is opening his patents up for use by others.

Longer story … because he's so disappointed that the competition's attempts at a decent EV are so anemic.

I mean, the BMW i8 … for $160k you get three fewer seats, two fewer doors and it still can't beat a Tesla P85 0-100 km/h.

And BMW has the gall to claim the i8 will "revolutionize its vehicle class".

Musk is clearly discounting the Leaf…. I mean, who wouldn't want to buy this stunner!

Haha … as much of an ugly duckling as it is, the Leaf is arguably the best all-electric out there for under $75k. They are (or so I've heard) fairly peppy and fun to drive. It's also the best-selling all-electric in NA.

Now if they could just improve the range …

Audi S4 wanted to pass me on the inside at a stop light today.

Nope.

That is going to be so sweet. I cannot imagine having the power of an electric motor in a bike, thing could be wild.

I really, really hope we are past the infliction point and companies keep on running with the electric theme.

Bet Harley will still find a way to make it the loudest thing on the road!! :P

Apparently, BMW is in the works to put an honest design effort into a competitive EV, rather than the two rather half assed products they've just released.

At least we have a working electricity distribution grid. No such hydrogen fuel infrastructure is currently in place.

I have a question about Tesla acceleration. I was driving behind a Tesla for part of the Sea-to-Sky Hwy last weekend. The guy kept accelerating, then braking a lot. Does the acceleration behaviour take time to get used to if you are used to a CE, or was I just behind a shitty driver who happened to be driving a Tesla?
