My wife and I bought an EV back in August. Been driving it daily ever since and it's been great. Had some range anxiety at first, but we've learned that it's not really an issue if we just use it for commuting and running errands.

Our current schedule is to drive it all week, plug it in Friday after work and let it charge over the weekend. We unplug to go to the beer store or get groceries, which actually uses almost no range because of the regenerative braking.

Then we unplug Monday morning and start the process over.

We only have level 1 charging at home so it takes the whole weekend to get to 95% - 100% charge, but that is more than enough to get us through the week, without having to top-off.

It's been about 3 months and I haven't noticed any difference on my hydro bill. I have noticed a huge savings in gas costs though... Our second vehicle is a Ram 1500, and not using it for errands has really helped extend how long a tank of gas lasts me.

why not plug it in every night?

Good question. If I only drove my Chevy Bolt to work and short errands (~50 km/day) I could easily get away with using a 110V level 1 charger and plugging in over night. I did install a level 2 charger for longer trips though. Whistler in the summer is no problem. We'll see how it goes in the winter. Heating and AC can suck up to 30% of your range if you're not careful.

So, now that Musk has committed to selling 10% of his shares and paying 15 billion dollars in tax, what ya gonna bitch about now?

He's not. Super rich don't give it away. There's an angle.

"He is the poster child for why we need a billionaires income tax," the progressive advocacy group Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF) wrote of Musk in a tweet on Sunday. "Billionaires shouldn't only have to pay taxes when they volunteer to do so."

https://americansfortaxfairness.org/issue/elon-musk-case-billionaires-income-tax/

The angle is that his 2012 options are set to expire in 2022.  So he's going to have to exercise them and realize the gain on them anyway.

Cashless exercise....lets him exercise his options without throwing cash into it by selling sufficient shares to fund the purchase of the remaining options.

^^ doesn't matter if it's a cashless exercise, he's gonna have a big tax liability come due on the realized gain on those options. estimates I've read are in the  10-15BN mark. So his twitter offer isn't from a place of largesse

These fuckers will do anything to avoid paying their taxes, no matter how much good it could do or how little it affects their lifestyle.

CounterCounterPoint - trickle down Reaganomics has been proven out to not work.  Wealth hording is destructive to society.  Also - 'they pay moar than u' is a really lazy take.

Yep, still not enough though.

Don’t fool yourself, these people aren’t playing the same game as us. They write the rules, they control who enforces them and they mostly keep us excluded from all of it.

Three percent actually.  And his poll was obviously just a cute little way of making his followers bond with him a little bit.

Well, that’s not particularly surprising.

I just read something that said there are 12000 gas station but only 6000 charging stations in Canada  and I imagine most of those are close to the border where all the people are ?

This just Tesla Supercharging ... doesn't show any of the third party chargers.

https://supercharge.info/map

thats just america^^ I am Canadian and really interested in Canada,  specifically  anywhere north of prince george

It is not just the US. It shows all Tesla Superchargers worldwide.

You mean, not surprising that Consumer Reports is funded in part by the Ford Foundation, and somehow found that a Ford is the most reliable car?

Seriously, if you some deep dive on CR rating methods, it's not very well controlled.

How about JD Power?

Both CR and JDP rely on surveys from volunteer owners. Their methodology is rife with confirmation bias. Rather than harvest a complete list of all problems and adding weighting, responders are just ask to list serious problems. So for one owner, a paint scuff might be a serious problem, where another may not care about a small paint flaw.

Also both of them conflate quality and reliability, such that a car delivered with minor quality problems will score low on their reliability ranking. Again using the paint flaw as an example, this would count as a 'reliability' problem. I strongly disagree with this approach. While quality issues should certainly be identified and addressed, they are not in any way reliability issues.

And then there are those pesky accusations that JDP sells their best rankings to the highest bidders ...
