Now I fell down the rabbit hole of classic car electric conversions.....

I owned an '80 Citroen Mehari in my early 20s. Guess what, you can now get an electric one:

It looks like my first car is getting the conversion as well.  I can't believe all the '76 Capris haven't turned to a pile of rust already.

T7 is not coming to North America. Last we got was the T4 aka Eurovan as they decided to name it here.

VW should have combined the T7 and the ID Buzz, kept it a Transporter and offered everything from a stripped out panel van to full spec California all on the same chassis sized the same as a T4/T5/T6 but looking like a Bay Window T2.

It's going to be available in Canada. From the link to VW Canada above:

"The ID. Buzz is expected to arrive in Canada in 2024. The Canadian version of the vehicle is planned to have a long wheelbase, all-wheel drive and rear-view drive options, and 5, 6, or 7-seat configurations. It will be manufactured in Hanover, Germany."

I don't know if the long wheelbase is what you meant with the "larger big boned version"?

The cargo version will only be available in Europe though from what I understand.

There is also talk of an ID.California campervan version.

I'm all over this thing, and the "Big Boned" version is clearly the way to go in NA if you actually want to sell a few of these em. Super curious what it would cost me to move from my Atlas to it. I think I'm done needing towing capacity so this is exactly what we want.

Being able to flatten down the seats and roll two or more bikes into the back with only the front wheels removed makes it a killer road trip mobile.  (yeah yeah, electric range, blah blah blah).

American "BUZZ will feature a wheelbase of 130 inches, a length of 195 inches, a width of 78 inches and a height of 77 inches"

"European ID. Buzz – both the passenger and cargo versions – is just 185.5 inches long on a 117.6-inch wheelbase. That's only five inches longer in total length than a VW ID.4, and nearly two feet shorter than a so-called 'minivan' in North America"

Electric Honda Element or similar sure would be useful.

Predicting the 2025 electric Tacoma or Ranger will be the new de facto dirt bag vehicle.

Even though I put a deposit down early, Ford just sent me an email telling me there's no way in hell they're selling me a Ford Lightning this millennia.

Cheapest Tesla you can now buy in Canada is at $61,380. I guess its no longer eligible for Provincial or Federal rebates (perhaps it has been that way for awhile?).

Now, with the exception of site visits, I work from home, and the vast majority of my driving is to destinations outside Metro Vancouver. I also drive lots in the winter and/or on gravel roads in remote areas without towns.

I would prefer that my next vehicle is all electric.

But have just been reading that dust and vibration are bad for the electric motors, and winter driving (with real winter tires) and cold weather can reduce range by half.

To buy an ev with the range I would like is far too expensive (even a used ICE and gasoline at $3/litre would end up being cheaper in the long run, and I like that I can drive 700 km with an ICE during daylight hours in winter)

The small hatchback ev's I like are not being imported to North America

I wonder how long I have to wait before there is an ev available in Canada that I would want to buy.

Ironically, most of my driving lately has been to do environmental assessments at proposed Tesla Supercharger sites .

I had not followed the Lucid Air. Wow. Engineering first on every aspect.

The infrastructure for non Tesla EVs is not even close to being feasible in Canada. I would guess that we will be waiting quite sometime for an EV that makes sense to most of us.
