“Instead of understanding that an automotive civilization is an ecological impossibility in the long term, it aims instead to substitute electric vehicles using renewable energy for ones running on fossil fuels. This hair-of-the-dog approach, even if it were completely successful, would do little to reduce the ecological impact of humankind.”

Electric Vehicle (EV) discussion thread
I've been dropping by Ken's place and unplugging his Tesla just after he goes to sleep and then coming back in the morning just before he's up to plug it back in. I can't wait for the complaints of how his car is not charging properly.

Elon: Please stop.
19yr old: No, pay me $50K or a Model 3
New electric VW bus, I could see myself driving this. Most likely way out of my budget.

It's a cool idea, but I've heard a lot of media comments that suggest they are going to price it way too high. I guess it's an appeal to the wealthy boomer wanting to relive their hippie days.

Yep. Tesla has the overpriced Boomer toys market sewn up. Until they get bored of what is now a pretty stale looking sedan.
2023 is pre-orders on that VW, so what’s that, 2024 delivery?
Got to drive a friends Ford E-Stang. Loved it.

I'm not a boomer or a hippie, I just like the idea of a practical EV minivan with loads of cargo space, great for camping and hauling gear. And I think it looks cool. I'd probably want the cargo version (sadly only available in Europe as I understand). If money was not a problem I'd want something like that VW bus. I don't think there's anything like it at the moment?
I've always bought used cars that were 10-20 years old so I might be able to scoop up a used one around 2044.
For now the old Subaru will do.
^^ I was just taking a poke at KenN. I have a soft spot for the old VW 23 window micro busses, love the retro nod from this E-buzz.

As a huge fan of Mustangs, especially the latest couple of years, I’m not really impressed with the “E-Stang”. How about the E-Pinto? A little closer in the looks department, but I can understand why Ford would consider that a no sale.

Buy an older VW transporter with a shot motor or transmission and covert it to an electric unit. With a FWD platform, a flat rear floor and a 1 ton cargo capacity it could be a could be a cool project and has the potential for a larger battery for extended range. I bet the g/f would like extended range. ;)

Something like this 😊
^^ that’s rad. I hit the lotto and I’ll get one of those and a retro Hukk e-Schwinn to go in it.
Now I fell down the rabbit hole of classic car electric conversions.....
I owned an '80 Citroen Mehari in my early 20s. Guess what, you can now get an electric one:
