I saw that, but interestingly only the software locked to 150km range version and Tesla Canada seems to be refusing to offer the unlock as an option. So $45k for a 150km car - makes little sense.

Don't forget that 150km version is the base model to get you in under the line for the rebate. You can spend a couple grand more as an upgrade for the unlocked care and still qualify for the rebate. Don't drive home in that golf just yet!

I might be wrong but I don’t think that’s correct as the Tesla is apparently refusing to offer the unlock option on the $45k car. So it looks like you’d be stuck forever with a car that can’t be unlocked - unless they offer it after purchase.

you just buy the more expensive version, the standard range plus, which is already unlocked. the locked version of the car is simply a way to get under the $45K price limit to meet the requirements for the rebate.

this is like a typical compliance car, not something they really intend to sell

but if you buy one, battery degradation is something you ever need to think about again 😂

"Totally possible to re-use a 220-240V dryer/oven plug to charge your EV (just check circuit's max amps for safety). The obvious downside is that your garage is not always proximate to your laundry/kitchen. But every time I drive my EV to visit Mom, I re-charge for the drive home by unplugging her dryer. Sorry, Mom."

answer ^^ to the same question asked on a different forum

in my house the stove is 30amp and the dryer is 40amp

That's odd.  In most North American households, stove is a 50-amp NEMA 14-50 outlet and dryer is a 30-amp NEMA 14-30 outlet.  Older dryers that don't use a Neutral use a 30 amp NEMA 6-30 outlet.

Yah, you're wrong.  The way the fed rebate program works is that to qualify for the program, the manufacturer must offer a base model priced with SRP under $45k, but the consumer may then purchase any version above the base model (options, etc) that has an SRP of below $55k.  So T makes a totally unusable 44,999 SRP model that they don't plan to sell (because it would be at a loss) simply to slide into the program, with expectations to sell the higher models, such as the SR+ that goes for about $52k.

Will be good to hear some first hand feedback about the Veedub. How the batteries preform in the cold etc.

VW announced a new EV (ID.3) that gets up to 360 miles per charge for the extended version.   Base gets 200 miles per charge and is around $34K USD.

Should be available within a year,  but unfortunately not in North America.

Looking more like something I would consider. Just needs to be a Sport wagon and AWD.
