Electric Vehicle (EV) discussion thread
Bought an A3 etron last year. One of the best purchases I ever made. If your commute is within range for a plugin hybrid and you can charge at work, or make it/almost make it home on a charge, they're a no-brainer imo.
Do the eTrons run on the gas motor when the batteries deplete or do they work more like the Volt (gas motor charges the batteries, electric motor still drives the car)?
It works like a hybrid.
Audi says the base price is in the low $40K.
Gets 25 kilometers on a charge, which isn't great.
So you're essentially buying a sportier hybrid.
I got my wife a cheap little electric Fiat 500 and its great. 150km/charge in the summer easy, 120ish in the "winter". Perfect little run-about for the shore. But Id hesitate before putting real money into an electric car anytime soon - Moores Law - tech is advancing so quickly that standards are changing and 5 years from now cars will charge much faster and go further that todays tech will be antiquated already and no one will want it. These electric cars will have totally different depreciation curves than combustion engine cars, which have been largely unchanged for decades in terms of their utility. So my money is staying with the cheap electrics for now.
Im a motorsport kind of guy but man these electric cars are incredible for BS commuting duty.

E-Tron starts @75,000+USD. Found some info on the US site. Almost non-existent on CDN site.
You're likely right about the Y. If it comes out looking like an X; it'll be a hard pass. Especially if equipped with falcon wing doors which makes the roof useless.
Not sure what the Y will look like, but I expect similar to the 3 but with something to differentiate for a clear separation between models. No chance it'll have the FW doors and still make target price point.
^how is that relevant to the topic?
a bit late, but still better than no date as in germany :/

You mean the 2030 ban that was passed in 2016 has been rescinded?
When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity.
When many people suffer from a delusion, it is called religion.
Wiki still thinks that Germany is on board ...

To be fair, the 2030 ban will be on sales of new vehicles, so existing ICE fleet will continue until they wear out completely.
Oh good, then my '96 Civic will still be viable.

bundesrat can say a lot of things, still not the government, they can only veto laws

Ah. I admit to a fair degree of ignorance on the basics of German governance.
bundesrat consists of the 16 federal states that are germany, bundestag votes on laws, bundesrat confirms/denies them, bundespresident puts them into law with signage
