Duty on tires from the states
I assume you're talking about car/truck tires?
If they aren't made in North America, yes. I think it's 6%.
Plus HST.
You might get a nice customs guy and they'll give you a break. I had one that only charged me duty on the tires from a tire/wheel set even though the wheels were made in Japan.
drive with old tires, get them mounted over there and come back without paying anything
or even better, go for 48 hours with another person and declare them within your limit of shit to bring back.
Portland has no sales taxes either.

well, yeah, that's kinda the point of getting them in the US tax and duty free.
I found that mostly if you are under 400$ for tires they do not make you come in and pay the HST etc.
So you buy a lot of sets of tires in the US?

Get caught and you'll be on Canada Customs black list for a very long time.

Pay cash, then drive along a dusty/dirty fireroad for a bit. Seems a bit weird though.
If I were to get tires, I'd incorporate a biking trip along with it.

When I picked up mine in December, I only payed HST on the tires themselves, no shipping to Pt Roberts.
