Herman Caine was in the lead for about a one month period, and was only a few points points higher than majority of the field. Caine's biggest week, he only managed 24% in the polls, only 4 points higher than Romney at the time.
Trump has been leading for essentially the entire primary and, other than a few startups, has been leading by 20+% over the 'establishment' Republicans.
I don't think it is pre-season bullshit. I think the Republican's have been cultivating a racist base for so long that the only way to win the primary is to pander to the largest block of Republican voters, racists. I mean, really, how many blacks and latinos need to be beaten up at Trump rallies before we start calling Trump what he is. He's not a joke, he's a bigot.
I mean, come on. The guy suggested last week that Muslims should have to be tracked, register in a database and have specific ID that listed their religion.
