we are cheap, anyone reccomend a good groomer?
We live downtown but could do north van or kits.

Try "Your Tub."
Tell your ladyfriend you found a place that will do it for 20 bucks, get her to give you the dog and the money and do it yourself.
Agreed… tried that approach…
any other reccomendations?
PetSmart is relatively cheap, but I don't know how good they are, but when I go there for supplies they seem to be doing a good job on the pets.
Get a good shampoo from your pet store, or from your vet if your dog has skin issues or smells really bad (Whistler has bad skin, I use the Vet Solutions shampoo, you can use it as often as every week, it deodorizes, stops itchiness, gets rid of build up, etc etc). Your vet will probably clip the nails pretty cheaply, or recommend a good groomer. If you walk or run the dog on pavement or trails a lot that keeps the nails down. I never have to trim Whistler's nails, and can't imagine paying someone to wash him. Different I guess if you have a frou-frou dog, or one with a long or shaggy coat!
cutting dog's nail isnt hard. just done cut into their veins in their nailz.
I dont really know if you can see the dog's vein in their nail but for my ferret and other small pets with transparent/white nails its obvious how far to cut
you can buy a little hand held grinder specifically for dogs nails
^ those are just nail filers no? to smooth things out after you cut the nail?
I've got one

there's a good one on 3rd in North Van, about 40 feet West of Lonsdale.
Wash your own dog. I've washed a 140lbs dog with long shaggy coat in the tub before, its a little gnarly so get a friend to help. Vet will clip nails cheap.
Dog groomer? I shouldn't be amazed that people consistently find new and more retarded ways to blow their money.

It's kinda like a human going to the barber….dimwit.

my dog gets washed in the ocean , or a pond, or any body of water, thankfully he doesn't stink much, cause he sure likes to fight in the tub!
however nails are another story, no way in hell can i hold him down to clip them, plus they're black, so it makes it alot harder. he'll hold still, then yank away right when i'm about to clip. plus he's 100 pounds and lanky, so there is alot of him to keep still.
bloody dog … i just walk him on alot of pavement to keep them worn down.
