Just about every show on TV these days objectifies women in some way, men too. I just started watching Quantico on Nextflix and it's sad how the recruits all wear crew neck t-shirts during their training exercises, yet the star (female) always has a v-neck t-shirt on to show off her cleavage or has a crew neck button up shirt that's unbuttoned. Young girls are hyper sexualized these days, it's the Brittney effect. When you start to critically examine how men and women are portrayed in the media, and then social media, it's easy to see how we are presented with unrealistic expectations of what women and men are supposed to look like.

Haven't had cable for a decade, sounds like I'm not missing much.

Yeah, nope. My daughter doesn't need to be watching women objectify themselves for popularity.

A lot of good content and positive role models out there, no need to put this low brow stripper pole crap into girls minds at all.

They put themselves out there like that, then get mad when men look at them "that way".

I do have a 7-year-old daughter and I don't have cable.  Win-win.  Not that J-Lo and Shakira aren't all over the internet anyway but at least it is not on my living room TV.  It is really strange to me how hyper-sexualization is not just allowed but encouraged yet not nudity.  I don't care if my daughter sees naked people.... J-Lo pole dancing on the other hand.

Two daughters here. Fill their heads with knowledge and confidence so they are in a position to determine if they should pole-dance or not.

Shielding them from things puritans hate is a really bad idea.

2 year-old here, 2 week old boy.

What ReductiMat said. You can’t shield em, you can’t control em, so train them to make good decisions and have confidence in themselves.

That’s the plan anyway.

I agree, but not wanting it on my TV has more to do with us showing her what kind of entertainment we enjoy in our house.  She is going to see that kind of thing anyway unless we lock he in her room.
