Hard to imagine there won't be a decent quake in my lifetime. Have a good amount of backpacking gear, first aid stuff and non perishable food. Keep the fuel topped up as much as I can. I'm not a prepper by any means but at least I'm not completely devoid.

It seems a major part of hardcore survivalist/prepper/bush craft culture is related to creating, discussing, and modding their go bags, called BOBs (BugOutBags) and often like to include guns. Some believe that law and order will go out the window first, and you need to protect yourself and supplies from people like syncro.
I can see having your survival kit/BOB in a bag being a positive thing, because you can be mobile. But maybe a 80L tote is OK too, if you think society isn't going to crumble around you.
A tote is much cheaper, I think I'll go with that. I think while humans are selfish, in times of extreme stress we're apt to help each other out. So no guns for me.
Keep a bin in the SUV, more a by product of accumulated kit for road trips. Have a small camp stove and such in it. During winter keep one of these in as well…
