ACKKK!!

Can't make a decision on this one.

Anyone with real world experience - input appreciated.

Inane commentary and "looks like a Trek" references are welcomed.

The decision is down to either this:

or this:

Both are being quoted to me with Intel Core i7 processors, 8 gb ram, 256 GB SSD

For arguments sake - the laptop will come with Windows 7 - the convertible tablet with Windows 8

I've been using an early generation touchscreen lenovo convertible (doesn't remove - it swivels) at work. I hate it. Have turned off all touch capabilities and just use it as a laptop. A colleague picked up the newer convertible model (removable) and hated it so much that he eventually sent it back.

If you need to do anything real, just get a laptop. If you want something to surf the web at your couch, buy an ipad or some other dedicated tablet.

YMMV

I find laptop better for serious gaming (and pr0n).

I enjoy my tablet much more for surfing, streaming to tv, email, casual gaming, reading, and pooping.

Neither is convertible. Or convertable. I think you make sacrifices either way.

This trip to Kelowna was definately an undertaking - Liam and I had been planning this project for 24 hours. We worked really hard to pull out all the stops in this video. We had slo-mo goggle shots; time lapses; pedal flips; outrageous product shots; unloading and loading the bike; walking through the field with your hand in wheat. At the end of the day this trip was all about just getting out and riding with all my friends.

I have early gen one at work too. We only use the touchscreen for signatures, other than that I just use it as a laptop although the swivel screen is handy if you are showing someone something on the monitor.

if performance is the same, get the cheaper one or be happy with what you already have.

I was playing around with one of these a couple of weeks ago and really liked it:

The T440 is a nice unit, and with the i7 it crunches numbers really fast. Battery life is pretty good too.

Windows 8 is shite. Avoid that if at all possible.

I'm using it now and it's good. I installed classic shell and it's the same as running Windows 7.

So what would you suggest?

Windows 8 is a great operating system. The T440p is a better choice. Unless you're only using it for facebook and porn, tablets suck. period.

But Lenovo T series have always been super bulky and heavy.
