true story.

When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity.

When many people suffer from a delusion, it is called religion.

Is it smart to save and save to pay for a 20k dollar truck when you can finance for 0%? I guess personally I say it would be justified IF you invested that money you saved to pay for the truck in the first place. I mean really the interest on your investment could be more than the 0% you're paying on the truck if you played your cards right. I guess it all depends on how you look at it.

There is only one way to look at it from a financial pov. You save money, you make interest
however small it may be. And when you go into buy said car, as POZ said, you will pay far
less if paying cash (bargain and whittle away, spend a few hours and get the best price).
On top of that, you will not need to buy as much insurance as you would if you were borrowing.
So, except for not "getting it now", saving to buy is the way to go.

Everybody should borrow as much as they can. It will make the economy better.

I paid cash for that 20K truck yeah there may have been cheaper ways with more leverage yada yada but to leverage what more shit … so I could buy some other thing I probably don't really need ?

IME yeah I could go in 1 layer so to speak, buy before I have the bread and leverage instead of waiting till the cash is there but then I don't know where all the dominos are gona fall which is how people get into trouble

Spending cash that I have feels different it feels better when I spend cash I have and it buys me something credit can't … piece of mind

Well let's do some math here.

I financed my truck at 2.9% and my "savings" are averaging 11%.

I paid 16k below sticker price.

Am I doing it wrong?

Hell yeah.

The ease of debt puts a lot of people in vehicles they have no business owning.

Sure. You could by a used vehicle with a reliable track record. All my post was pointing out is you could have a fucking negative interest rate but they have figured it out so they are still making an extra profit on you. One way or another the expense is rolled into the cost, they aren't idiots giving away free cars.

By the way, that's usually how those cash back mortgages work.

In today's climate, 16K off sticker price the norm on a NA large/loaded pickup.
