I knew Letterman was retiring…. but Colbert as a replacement?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Colbert Report, but will they just pick that show up and replace the Late show with it? Weird.

I would think he will have to drop the conservative talking head schtick to do the Late Shaw properly, which will be strange since you rarely see the real Colbert.

This has the potential to suck incredibly.

I don't know. People in the business consider Colbert to be a perfectionist and I doubt he would accept it if he could nail it.

That's what I'm thinking. Which makes me agree with

He's said that he'll be dropping the conservative character.
Seems like a smart move for him, how many years is he going to act out in character and still keep it fresh?
The biggest measure of his success is to do better than Fallon grinning like a goof through every routine - shouldn't be too hard.

I haven't read the linked article yet, but I have read somewhere that because Letterman Owns his show and Late Late Night (or whatever comes on after him) he gets to hand pick his successor… I thought for sure it would be Conan, just to stick it to Leno one last time.

I think it shows a massive difference in the Canada/US humour compared to Aussie humour.

Because most of us find David Letterman so unfunny, yet love Kimmel and Fallon!

^Yes he does well at pulling celebrities in and doing raps/lip syncing musical routines. Take that away though, meh.

Canada/US humour? Sounds like the opinion of an Aussi/Kiwi!

Fallon has the highest ratings here by a mile.

I think fallon has recaptured the younger market with his skits\games. And segments about tweeting\social media speak to the current generation. The stars seem to get a good kick out of it as well added social media attention. Plus having the roots as your band doesn't hurt. But take away all of this stuff his interview style is very bland.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of show Colbert presents. Personally I like watching Ferguson the best of the current hosts.
