Gotta love the Corporate greed. Their cost might have went up, what? a fraction of a cent per brewed cup? Lets make it a whole penny.(could be wrong, just assuming)
But prices went up 10-20 cents a cup at McDicks and Timmies
Nice.

Cost of coffee futures have been dropping since Oct. (top of the high), but is is up in 2014 vs. 2013 if you change the time scale of the graph to 2 years.

Maybe in the market for a new espresso machine, budget is sub $1K.
I've heard good things about Jura but they're pricey. Rancilo Silvia?

I have a Jura, love it. The family uses it every day, about a total of 4 cups on a weekday and more on a weekend. If we have guests over it can pump out cup after cup of really, really good coffee.

I got the basic espresso / americano one, less to clean, no sour milk in the lines that just creates more work. I nuke milk when I want a latte (I can hear the screams of 'heretic' now), but generally drink americanos or espressos. This model has a 'primary' reservoir for beans that are ground for each cup, it also has a chute to scoop pre-ground coffee for your one dinner guest that wants decaf.

One word of warning, like all machines, you need to be on top of the cleaning. I clean the grounds tray every night and refill the water, leaves me ready for morning coffee. Every couple of weeks I do a more thorough cleaning, run a cleaning tab through the system, reach inside the machine and clean out any grounds that have collected. It's very little work once you get used to it and keeps the machine running smoothly.

Seriously love this machine, better than anything else I have ever owned. Used to hit a coffee shop for a 'cup of good stuff' when I didn't want the home made brew, I now rarely buy coffee outside the house.

PM me if you want more thoughts.

Head over to:

Based out of Vancouver, good customer service and tonnes of accessories.

You can find the odd Silvia that pops up on Craigslist, another option.

Make sure you get a good grinder too.

Looks like I need a new burr grinder.

What are people using at home? Looking to pick one up off amazon for Freedomvilles Black Friday/Cyber Monday events.

I’ve used the Breville one and another Italian brand from C&B

I've had the Breville smart grinder pro for years.  Still going strong.  Would recommend.

The Breville dose control is a bit cheaper, not sure how it compares.

I bought a Krups burr grinder a few years ago. Does the trick, was $60 I think.
