I can see the press conference now where Al Gore has to apologize for looking at the graph upside down.  "False alarm folks.  It turns out that CO2 levels are far too LOW.  Drive those cars... Roll that coal... Save the trees!"

These are movers and shakers in America today.  Fucking morons.

“A lot of people have this wrong,” he said. “I have a lot of trees dying on my property — all my properties. I went to the world experts and I asked them, ‘Why are my trees dying?’ Every one of them said the same thing, ‘As we lower our carbon footprint, we remove CO2. As we lose CO2, the trees are gonna die.’ And that’s exactly what’s happening.”

“If we keep lowering our CO2 levels, all the tree huggers in the room, you are gonna lose your trees,” he added, referring to his colleagues.

Wow. This may very well be the stupidest thing I'll read all year.

We're fucked...

I wonder what these graphs would look like if the CO2 from manufacturing were tallied to the consumer country instead of the producer country.

You would think that maybe China's CO2 is mostly from producing products for wealthy western nations but it doesn't appear so.  It doesn't seem to matter what country you look at, the CO2 is primarily from domestic use of energy.

The article you linked explicitly leaves out production-based CO2: “These figures reflect ‘production-based’ emissions, so do not correct for traded goods”

The link titled “Consumption-based CO2 emissions per capita” shows the data relevant to my post.

Cribb has created nomenclature for the chemical epidemic: Anthropogenic Chemical Circulation (“ACC”). “The ACC is just like our carbon emissions – only much bigger and far more noxious… For the first time in the Earth’s history, a single species – ourselves – is poisoning an entire Planet.”

Man-made chemicals are always on the move constantly in space and time, all around us, traveling on wind, in the water, attached to soil, within dust and plastic microparticles, in traded goods. Chemicals stay with us forever reforming, recycling, recombining, and reactivating as part of an unending planetary river, the Anthropogenic Chemical Circulation. Nothing escapes toxic pollution: “Even the mud on the sea floor is becoming poisonous.”

“Interestingly, Europe only permits the use of 400 food additives out of 3000 permitted in the US. Essentially, Europe has banned 4/5ths of the chemicals allowed in the US food chain. Europe outlaws any chemicals that do not meet its criteria for “non-harm to humans or the environment.” (Canada?)

So.. I would get as much riding in as you can in the next few weeks. Smoke from Washington and Oregon this summer is going to be full on.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

We are our own worst enemy. From that ^^^ article:

Blazes spark every year. Between 80% and 90% of fires started are caused by humans, according to Franz.

Now let's see what the graph looks like if we recalc the numbers per capita.

I always tend to think that gross level data is somewhat useless in discussions on climate change.

After this weekend, will anyone doubt climate change?

There are those who still think it's just part of a cycle. Earth warms & cools throughout time. But one cannot deny that man has had a large effect on the environment. All I hear is talk about change, but I don't see change because making money is priority. Seems every time I go somewhere in the lower mainland, another swath of bush has been levelled for an apartment building or mall. One might think; "Oh, it's only a small piece of land, there's lots more around". Well if you take those small-ish pieces, they add up to alot. We belong to the earth, it doesn't belong to us.
