Has anyone read Bill Gates' new book? I like what he has to say on the subject so I am going to pick it up soon.

These were on Gates' desk during one of his 2020 interviews... And the George cover image is a freebie ;)

LMAO. Oh Shogun. Bill Gates just wants you to read a fucking a book. It's on his recommended book list. How to Lie with Statistics is about how avoid being bamboozled by bullshit pie charts. If anyone needs to read this book it's you.  BONUS:  It's a quick read with lots of pictures.

Have been for a long time. Look at the idiots on this board - they blindly believe what they're told while other people are the problem to them.

“Human activity is driving climate change,” Sweeney said. “If we want to mitigate the worst impacts, it’s going to take a deliberate focus on reducing fossil fuels emissions to near zero — and even then we’ll need to look for ways to further remove greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere.”

However, it’s not just energy policies that need an overhaul. NOAA found that last year saw “a significant jump in the atmospheric burden of methane, which is far less abundant but 28 times more potent than CO2 at trapping heat over a 100-year time frame.”

The agency noted that preliminary analysis “indicates that it is likely that a primary driver of the increased methane burden comes from biological sources of methane such as wetlands or livestock rather than thermogenic sources like oil and gas production and use.”

05/18/2021 - Scientists have detected new early-warning signals indicating that the central-western part of the Greenland Ice Sheet may undergo a critical transition relatively soon. Because of rising temperatures, a new study by researchers from Germany and Norway shows, the destabilization of the ice sheet has begun and the process of melting may escalate already at limited warming levels. A tipping of the ice sheet would substantially increase long-term global sea level rise.

A glimmer of hope?

But in addition to several positive feedbacks that accelerate melting, there exist negative feedbacks that might stabilize the Greenland ice sheet at intermediate heights levels, mostly via increasing accumulation. “We urgently need to better understand the interplay of the different positive and negative feedback mechanisms that determine the current stability and the future evolution of the ice sheet”, says Boers.

“A lot of people have this wrong,” he said. “I have a lot of trees dying on my property — all my properties. I went to the world experts and I asked them, ‘Why are my trees dying?’ Every one of them said the same thing, ‘As we lower our carbon footprint, we remove CO2. As we lose CO2, the trees are gonna die.’ And that’s exactly what’s happening.”

“If we keep lowering our CO2 levels, all the tree huggers in the room, you are gonna lose your trees,” he added, referring to his colleagues.
