Something I don't recall hearing much about. I've planted a pile lately, can't speak to the O2 production, but the difference in sound levels and amount of wildlife has been surprising.

From what I remember from school, if everyone who had a yard in a city planted a bit more than overall city temperatures decrease, oxygen levels rise, pollution goes down and wildlife populations (endemic and transitory) go up, noticeably and significantly.
As you’ve noticed, the hyper local effects are significant as well, and therein lies the key to getting folks to plant IMO.

Yeah, I was here to post about that. I'm not longer panicking at this point, it's more like damned resignation. I feel like it's time to reevaluate life and go with the plan there are maybe 20 good years left of "modern living" before things really go for a shit and to try and get as much good living as possible and drop anything that doesn't contribute to that. Listening to a scientist today who has been studying the Milne ice shelf for close to 40 years, he figures the chance of acrtic ice returning to "normal levels" is possible, but not probable considering that warming is continuing to accelerate. Maybe we should let this covid thing run rampant and wipe half of us out so the planet can have a bit of a reset? We sure as shit ain't gonna do it on our own before it's too late - which it most likely already is. I seriously feel for you people with kids at home, their futures are going to be unpleasant compared to what we grew up with.

Yeah.. I don't think there's anything to save at this point, but if the powers that be decide that they might actually want to do something I'm all for it. Just going about trying to save the planet on your own does seem like pissing into a hurricane of other stupid people pissing on you.
Pretty sure we can thank social media for making stupid people think they're smart in their stupid groups sharing stupid memes about how only they have common sense cause they don't trust the mainstream news about the science that they're too stupid to understand.
Hard to say if that was the goal of it from the start but that's definitely what it's being used for now more than anything.

I will try and be the optimist here I guess. I think we need to realize that what we will get is going to be somewhere in between this climate today and a flaming hellscape, but life will go on. These articles we all read are terrifying, but there are a lot of unknowns. Cloud cover for example is poorly understood and will change a lot as the heat puts more moisture into the air. From what I understand, low clouds are good (today is looking good) and high clouds are bad. Which we will get more of is still a guess.
Adaptation needs to be as much as part of the plan as reducing CO2. We might not know exactly what will happen or when, but we can look at the various scenarios and understand what we will need in place to cover our asses as best as we can. Consider yourselves all lucky to live here. We have a decent location and we have wealth.
