I like it, succinct. Like the thread title suggests, the scary part of climate change is the chaotic nature of it and what we've yet to discover. A simple straight forward step towards mitigation is a welcome relief. Thanks for the share Tungsten.

How much thinking does everyone put into their mtb vacation plans/riding vs the environment? I'm thinking things like choosing climbing over shuttles or say heli drops? What about flying overseas vs doing more of a local trip? Has anyone ever run the math on the difference on say flying to Europe for a trip vs say driving to the Kootenays?

I do....not the amount I would like to but I try and have a minimal impact.
I use chairlifts though and if I travel alone in my car in the Alps, I try to climb on my own power as much as I can. All-day alpine mountainbiking. But with my kiddo....well.....chairlifts and bikeparks.
I do think that such decision might minimize individual impact but what is needed is political decisions and laws.
So far, I have significantly reduced my online orders and using my car for getting to places.
But....BC in 2021 would be awesome. As would be in 2022.

You could make the argument that living in Whistler is a costly choice in terms of climate change as is driving a certain German 600HP SUV

You totally could. But then you’d have to explain your 250hp Japamerican vehicle that sees 25,000km a year spits out oxygen somehow.
I don't fly very often for vacation, but I also hate flying so I can't claim that I am 100% doing it for the environment. I do find that air travel tends to be where most people that are environmentally conscious really show their cognitive dissonance. My brother in law is always on an eco rant but has been to New Zealand at least 4 times in the last decade, plus other sunny destinations.
I still strongly believe that we need to be forced into acting better with legislation that adds externalities to the price tag.
