. I'd say 1-2 in 8 people recycle world wide.

I'd say your math is fucked up! Are you just naive?

No if I was naive I would've said 7/8 people in the world recycle and care about the planet and that the evil 1/8 are responsible for this whole mess.

Which sounds more realistic you hostile twat?

Not sure if I ever recommended this but try an indica for a change and calm the fuck down already.

Wanna really bum yourself out, watch the Plastic Ocean doc on Netflix. It's brutal

I thought some young kid from Baltimore worked out a prototype reeler vessel that'd convert the majority of gyre's contents into plastic rope? Or someone and something had that a while ago. Possible better solution would be to retrofit any oil rigs the vicinity and just have them pull the gyre's in and process it as a site.

Found something close to it. This isnt quite what I remember but it'll do:

https://inhabitat.com/19-year-old-student-develops-ocean-cleanup-array-that-could-remove-7250000-tons-of-plastic-from-the-worlds-oceans/

Well it's a start. I wonder if we can pull it out as fast as it goes in? Saw some footage of the riverbank slums in the Philippines... They just Huck it in the ocean, no where else to put it. I think we are miles off a solution to this.

How about water guys?

I'll tell you about water. When push comes to shove Nestle will just invade and take it.

Next question.

Nestle gets all the water it wants for almost free. Obviously someone has been bought out.

The number of ebikes and electric scooters in downtown Oslo was incredible   Hardly any car traffic after you add in the tram and busses and pedestrians.

As a father of a 6-year-old it weighs on my mind pretty heavily and like you say, our personal choices won't affect a goddamn thing at this point. I have always thought this needs to be a political fight and it seems like that tide is turning, but even with a herculean effort of the world's governments, we are about to witness something awful. I am willing to give up air travel. I hate flying.

Change happens 1 decision at a time.  Are you driving a car to work today?

Yes, I did, but I am going in to look at electrics this weekend.

Change does happen 1 decision at a time, but we must have bold government decisions at this point if we are going to meet any of the goals set in the Paris accord, which as far as I can tell is a Hail Mary anyway.   It is just hard to not get bummed out by the deluge of terrifying reports.  I just hope they are wrong, but logically it doesn't seem like they are.

The planet will be fine, extinction is normal.

It’s ourselves that people are trying to save.  Let’s stop phrasing this like it’s not motivated by self interest.

Hopefully someone comes up with a better plan than collective action, because I’ve never seen an example of an animal (human or otherwise) that has chosen to sacrifice at a personal level to achieve a population level goal.  Populations have always boomed, hit a ecological control, then collapsed.  I haven’t seen any indication that humans are going to be any different.

I know you aren't, was just kidding around... wasn't trying to offend.

It really feels like whenever steps are taken to try and better our impact on the planet the self entitlement kicks in. Carbon tax - agree with it or not, comes into play and everyone cries. It's supposed to reduce the amount that people drive which could be considered a step in the right direction? Doesn't seem to affect the guys I work with who commute from the Fraser Valley each day in their giant lifted dodge trucks.... the only thing that ever goes in the bed is golf clubs, when they aren't at the Casino. So what is the solution? Carbon burning vehicle surtax on your insurance decided by engine size/consumption? Why do we have to tax all the time to get a result? Why can't they not be dicks and get a vehicle that doesn't burn so much fuel. It's one thing to need and drive a work truck, another for a giant douche mobile that never gets dirty. We have two cars one is a commuter, am planning on an EV car in the next couple years, just getting the charging stations in our strata garage sorted out in the next year.

11 billion is the middle projection by 2100 and something tells me shit's gonna hit the fan before that comes to pass. The low projection is that it will have dropped back to where it is today by 2100, but I am not sure how they get the numbers.

It’s you people having children that are ruining it all. That why I’m kinda glad that I was lucky enough to be born ugly so that no woman would have me and I can live with a clear conscience about not contributing to the demise of the human race.

Lol got same advice. Everyone who feels that you should get off the conspiracy boards and open a newspaper, or your eyes, and wake up to the world around you...needs to smoke pot.
