God forbid anyone work on the trails on Burnaby Mountain unless you have Christy Clarke's permission.

They should run the pipeline down Gear Jammer (not Pipeline). There is already a big ditch ready-made for the pipe and nobody has been allowed on it for months now. Run some metal floor-grip grates on top of the pipe and you're ready to roll. The pipeline could be routed to the pump-track/dirtjumps (which could be expanded by building big jumps across the huge pipes, like the bottom of A-line in Whistler - Jay Hoots are you listening?) and the run down to the Mountain Air Bike Skills Park. Its win-win! When life gives you lemons, you make huck-able lemonade.

I listened to the interview on CBC with Burnaby mayor.
The kinder morgen crew were not just cutting down a rotten tree according to him
They were intending on clear cutting an area to make a helicopter landing pad.
The helicopter was supposed to bring in equipment to bore holes to do some geo core sampling.
A lot more than what the regulations permit and they no permission to cut healthy tree in an area that is designated parkland.

But Premier Christy Clark has long said LNG is a once in a generation opportunity to get B.C. out of debt, and create 100,000 jobs.

What happens to all this LNG when this generation dies out? Is it quantumly linked to us somehow?

Christ we're a bunch of dumb monkeys. Why do we elect people like this time and time again.

Wasn't Harper, it was the National Energy Board that ruled mths ago they could go in.

Its a Muni park. NEB got new streamline powers in 2011 omnibus bill to expropriate land without any kind of hearings or appeals. Its public land (owned by the city of Burnaby), but KM does not need a permit to do work on the land. Ironically, the NEB Act/bill also gives energy projects the same powers over private land as well. This will probably be the first test of these powers on non-federally owned public land. I'm sure a test of the ability to expropriate private land for energy projects will come up soon too.

Pretty easy to see through that… there's nothing showing that the sheepeoples have interpreted her words quite as literally as you have.

In a way it's kinda true tho… it's one of the biggest things on the table and would make the Province a more fruitful and diversified place to work in - would decouple the jobs argument away from crude too. Lots of pluses really, and the sooner the better.

It will all be exported to China. Future generations can suck it.

BTW, I wonder what the business case for LNG tankers crossing the Pacific Ocean to China will be if/when the Russians build a pipeline direct from their oilfields to China and charge rock-bottom prices ($10-$11 per million cubic feet). Knowing the Russians, they will probably gladly lose money on it just to piss off Harper and Blowhard Baird.

Also, there seems to be no Canadian players in the LNG game. Canada has to rely on such players as Malaysia's Petronas (State Oil Company) to do the deal on our behalf, like a 3rd world country.

There are a doz proposals up here the locals out in the Kispiox feel like they are under siege but with the setback of the Tsilcotin decision I don't think Harper can eliminate the checks n balances in Canada fast enough before they miss the market

After Apache pulled out of the Apache/Chevron project the one line that was the most likely to get built is in jeopardy

I notice that we have heard SFA from Enbridge since the Tsilcotin decision was handed down 2.5 months ago … this^^ must be the response ?

City of Burnaby Files Civil Claim against Kinder Morgan in Supreme Court

Burnaby seeks Interim and Permanent Injunctions to stop Kinder Morgan from Continuing to Damage Burnaby Mountain Conservation Land in Contravention of the City of Burnaby’s Bylaws

September 9, 2014

For immediate release

On September 8, the City of Burnaby filed a Civil Claim against Kinder Morgan, seeking an injunction to restrain Kinder Morgan from continuing to carry on works in the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area in contravention of the city of Burnaby’s bylaws. The Burnaby Parks Regulation Bylaw prohibits the cutting of trees and damage to the park. Kinder Morgan workers entered the park on September 2, and cut down trees and bushes to allow for helicopter and drilling activities. Kinder Morgan ignored an Order from the City to cease bylaw contraventions.

Burnaby will go to court on Thursday, September 11 to seek a temporary injunction to stop further works damaging the park until the full matter can be heard before the Court.

The overall action also seeks a declaration that the Ruling of August 19, 2014 of the National Energy Board does not have the effect of overriding or declaring inapplicable the City of Burnaby’s bylaws and a declaration that the National Energy Board does not have the constitutional jurisdiction to issue an order to the City of Burnaby that directs or limits the City in the enforcement of its bylaws.

“In spite of Burnaby’s longstanding bylaws put in place to fulfill our citizens’ wishes to protect irreplaceable conservation areas in our city, on September 3 Kinder Morgan cut down 13 ecologically significant trees – the largest of which was 24 metres high – in the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area,” says Mayor Derek Corrigan. “These trees cannot be replaced.

“Kinder Morgan was not entitled to carry out this destructive action, and the fact that they have now stopped their work and have gone back to the National Energy Board to seek an order that would allow them to continue to conduct destructive survey work in the park – including cutting of large trees in forested areas, drilling of bore holes, and constructing a helicopter staging area – demonstrates that they knew they did not have the lawful right to do what they did.

“We will do everything we can as a City to ensure Kinder Morgan does not return. Late yesterday the City filed a Claim in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. We do not believe that the National Energy Board’s ruling enables Kinder Morgan to defy our laws and we are asking the Supreme Court to confirm this.

“This pipeline has not been approved, but Kinder Morgan thinks nothing of illegally entering our park, causing irreparable harm to the ecosystem and defying the laws our citizens have put in place.”

“Given Kinder Morgan’s refusal to recognize City jurisdiction, and claims that the NEB order prevents the City from undertaking bylaw prevention activities, there was no alternative and it is clear that this is a matter that the BC Supreme Court must decide,” says Burnaby legal counsel, Greg McDade QC. “It is the City’s view that the company must comply with local laws as well as NEB rules, but Kinder Morgan thinks they are free to ignore or break those other laws without even a court determination.”

“We are now looking to the Supreme Court of British Columbia to confirm the City’s right to protect the land that the bylaws were put in place to guard.”

Either ruling would be a provincial precedent setter yes no?

As in if the NEB gives any Company the go ahead and the BC Supreme Court upholds that, then every designated park and undesignated green space is open and up for grabs.

Since I was curious if the NEB was actually a true Federal agency, I check the site and this was in the middle of the page:
