Lol civil society. So the countries that have been invading, bombing and abusing muslim countries for decades are supposed to determine if China is abusing muslims? Give me a break..

I try not to read CP articles, but who can criticize China exactly with this logic?  I highly doubt the author's of the article bombed anyone and if I know CP they are more than willing to criticize the West (that is kinda their thing).

I'm on the fence with this one.  On one hand, I do not support the death sentence for any reason, on the other, dude is quite the repeat offender ...

from the CBC webpage:

"The ruling came after a sudden retrial of a 15-year sentence for allegedly conspiring with others to smuggle 222 kilograms of methamphetamine from China to Australia in 2014."

If anybody would like to think this retrial and death sentence has nothing to do with the Huawei deal then I have some Nortel stock I should sell you. How can people possibly say that China's regime is not repressive? Canada and other Western nations are not without their faults, but to try and compare them with China is flat out lunacy.

It's impossible to say if this has anything to do with the Huawei arrest.

They get excited about drugs over there and 15 years is a pretty light sentence compared to other similar cases involving foreigners.

Did you guys see this guy's Canadian rap sheet? He did 16 months in Canadian prison back in 2012 and has hard drug offences leading all the way back to 2003.

I don't think I ever claimed the Chinese wouldn't react to one of their people being arrested politically. I just don't think they're reaction is gonna be to start rounding up Canadians on groundless charges.

A travel advisory is more their style as it will hurt our pocket book. Mainland tourists dump all kinds of money in Canada.

The only reason these Canadian detainees are getting so much press is to try and draw attention away from the massive fuck up we made arresting anyone the Americans ask us to. Because to my understanding our extradition treaty with the Americans is limited to things that are illegal in both countries and the charges against Meng are not crimes under Canadian laws.

Say what you will about Hauwei's spynet or whatever the charges against her have nothing to do with any of that it's about how she was moving money. She didn't break Canadian laws so we fucked up.

I dunno you tell me, is murder still a crime in both Canada and India? If so, what's your point exactly?
