Fido works fine for me. $45/mo for 4gb and unlimited everything else. $12/day roaming seems to be a thing across the board. I use 1.5gb data on average. I bought a cheap LG G8 Thinq over eBay, new in box for $150 and it's been good enough. Velvet 5G can probably be found cheap too.
Cell phone plans
koodo prepaid seems to be the cheapest way to have an unlocked phone when bought outright. i used Nomad e-sim on a couple of recent USA trips. its Data only and it uses t-mobile and at&t networks. works perfectly for my needs and i wont ever pay to roam now i've used that.

Nomad sounds like the ticket for when I am south next. Hell, I wouldn't mind disabling my voice and SMS when I am in Canada half of the time. Do they give you much data?
you can buy as much data as you need, plans last for 7 or 30 days and you can add data once activated.
TMS and Mobile Klinik have define pretty good deals on the Pixel 6a.
$35 20GB BYOD Black Friday deal at multiple carriers.
Google Pixel 6a as low as zero dollars a month.
Check Red Flag Deals, or go to a kiosk at a local mall.
I have 50GB for $70 thru Rogers
Got a $30 for 20GB plan, using Virgin, for my daughter. Fido has same pricing.
Fido had 50gb for $65 and iPhone 11 over Jeebus Turkey Weekend

Cityfone specifically do not have a US roaming solution as all US providers switched off 3G in July. In fact, I guess any Canadian provider with 3G plans would be similarly affected.
Dang, didn't realize that. I might have to look into changing carriers depending what comes up in this thread.
