I was comparing hit on Lucic (opened up by rayne maker) w/hit on Salo. Don't give a shit what Lucic was doing when Salo was hit by Marchand.

Marchand hit from behind FTL.

Kn.

From behind? Wat? Youre kidding. Thats even daft for you Ken. Salo knew that Marchand was there… turned slightly to take a hit on the shoulder and Marchand went low and hit Salo with his side/shoulder to Salo's hip.

It certainly wasnt perfectly clean.. I dont think any 'hip' check (i know its not really a hip check).

Ummm … freeze at the 2 second mark. He goes below the hip for a hit down to the knees. See NHL Rule 44 - Clipping, "A player may not lower his body position to deliver a check to an opponent’s knees."

Marchand went low … to Salo's hip.

maybe watch the replay?

this space is intentionally blank, other than this note about it being blank.

Hamhuis hit Lucic between knee and thigh.

Marchand hit Salo at or below knee.

That's the difference.

Im playing devils advocate here.. but is there no argument at all that it was a hip check?

For example:

LOL. I love the plea to the NHL before they have even made a decision on Marchand.

Honestly though, both are pretty dangerous but they are also clearly different. Hamuis was a text book hip check to the front between the knee and the hip, Marchand went in shoulder first with one knee on the ice to the back of Salo at the knee, possibly above the knee.

If it was me I would rather be in Lucic skates. Going over backwards is scary.

ooo. just heard, 5 games.

I love Shanahans clear tone and concise reasoning. Are Boston fans actually arguing this?
I didn't notice the punch to the face right before the hit until now.

Boston players and fans all seem to have that block-headed, eyes to close together look. Stereotypical meat-head, schoolyard bully mentality. And their homer media is enough to make me projectile vomit. Fuck you Boston.

Wrong. Always.

I got to say, Shanahan is doing a much better job than Colon Blockage Campbell ever did.

Wrong. Always.

Yeah Shanny's video is great. I didn't realize they came together in exactly the same way :16 before the clip with a shoulder to shoulder bump.

Kind of blows Marchand's self defence plea out of the water!

Pass it to Bulis has a good breakdown of the whole chain of events.

win. end of story.
