We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

My big issue isn't the "social reference prices" but rather that beer and wine doesn't fall under NAFTA. We have great beer in BC but I want to be able to fill my car up with sweet sweet PNW microbrews (and California wines for that matter) without having to pay duty!

That article doesn't really apply to BC, out beer certainly is NOT cheap.

I can safely say that I have never contemplated the idea of saying no to a fresh beer because it was just too expensive. The reality is, I binge drink anyway but pay more money than I should to do it, beer companies profit and buy up more ad space of fun loving dudes picking up bikini clad womens, and a new generation of horny teen binge drinkers is born.

This article explains why basically every cheap beer at the BCL is $.36 to .38 per mL. Switching between PBR / Cariboos / Pacific Pil / Bowen is enough to keep enough variety in my cheap beer needs. Why Molson and Labatt stuff is more expensive, I have no idea…

Basically the article points out that beer in Canada is generally inflated prices. Groups like MADD encourage the government price setting like this because they believe it discourages drinking.

$17 for a 24 pack of domestic beer down here. Slightly more for micro-brews, I have a hard time stomaching the beer prices in Canada these days. Every time I head back to the "motherland" I always bring 5 cases of beer with me. Save a couple hundred dollars that way.
