They call it Campbell River as they are not pretentious.
Had to sleep on this one.... Still don't get it.
The Sledneck guy says " hey bro you headed up to Pemb for a rip?" I don't get the pretentious part.

Calling it by the full name seems more pretentious. CR or the River sounds more local to me. Small towns almost always give themselves a nickname.
Well, I never heard of one. People from there will say they are "river rats", but that's the extent of it.

I'd choose Campbell River over Victoria to Nanaimo region most days of the week.
Same. Mt Washingtn and Mt Cain for day trip skiing, Cumberland just down a (very fast) highway for world class mountain biking plus Snowden trails for local xc.

Its a pretty glorious place to be honest.
I love Campbell River. Cousins live there and my parents did for a number of years. Make sure you buy or at least make friends with someone with a boat, unreal fishing. I'd move there if I could make money.
