They need to build a de-sal plant! That's what we did here in Sydney and not only did it break the drought, but it has now cost us $390 million since in upkeep fees. That big ass plant costs us a mild $500K a day to just sit there.
They estimate at our current water levels of 85%, we won't need to start up the plant for at least several years :rocker:
I couldn't agree more. I'm in LA and am constantly appalled by the terrible attitudes towards conservation and the near total failure to recognize the magnitude of the problem, beyond simply paying lip service to it.

A new de-sal plant is opening next year in Carlsbad, and another big one is planned down in Ensenada that may also supply San Diego. But the city here is looking at recovering and treating waste water into potable drinking water. That would cost around 1/6 the cost of desalinated water and will ease capacity at existing waste treatment plants. Not sure how well drinking toilet water will go over down here though. No doubt Brita and the water bottle industry will have a field day with it.
