but what?
Why bother…not like there's a shortage of cars out there
I think its no big deal as long as you look at it like any other used car. Make sure the mileage is right and the car itself is not too beat up. Most of the year old cars or truck I have bought at dealerships were probably rentals or "lease returns" I suspect. They have all been good cars but maybe I am lucky. I think rental places are required to get oil changes etc. to keep up with their leases so its better than your average dumbass who does no maintenance.
Almost every car I ever rented i picked up at an airport to do a whole bunch of hy KMs , consider people rent those cars and do longer trips in them than the average guy does … which is easyier on the car than a whole bunch of stop n go
yeah I beat on some of them in my younger years but most people are just gona rent em do business [HTML_REMOVED] bring em back
I rent cars all the time. I fly for work and always pick one up at the airport.
It always takes 10 or 15 minutes of driving before i figure out the transmission, dash buttons etc, I do that while driving, trial and error. A couple weeks ago in Calgary I got halfway into town from the airport, on the highway, in a Mitsubishi RVR before I realized the car was in AWD Low and with something called Econo on. Probably not to good for the car.
Never check oil, tire pressure, or anything while I've got the car. Don't care.
Fill it at the closest gas station to the airport on the way back. Always buy the cheapest gas they have.
Park it unlocked wherever I can legally closest to my destination. Dont really care what happens to it while parked as I rented it and I buy the insurance with my company credit card.
Last time in Calgary I missed my exit to the last gas station before the airport so just put it in AWD Low, doubled back across a snowy median, up and over a couple curbs etc to get to the pumps. Didnt check to see if anything was bent or wrong after, just headed into the airport and parked it.
None of the above I would think of doing to or with my own vehicles.
I'm pretty sure I'm a typical rental car user.
.
A friend bought a Camry from a rental place. That was 8 years ago and zero issues.
Basic vehicle that's reliable is probably the safest purchase.

JC says that the fastest car in the world… Is a rental Corolla..
Is there a Vancouver in Taiwan?! I had no idea!!

JC says that the fastest car in the world… Is a rental Corolla..
He was quoting PJ O'Rourke: "There's a lot of debate on this subject - about what kind of car handles best. Some say a a front-engined car, some say a rear-engined car. I say a rented car. Nothing handles better than a rented car. You can go faster, turn corners sharper, and put the transmission into reverse while going forward at a higher rate of speed in a rented car than in any other kind.
So he proceeded to redline the rented Corolla and take it off-road to prove his point that it was the "fastest car in the world".
I rented a gmc canyon once in vegas………… first time it ever had all four wheels off the ground was on the moto track north of Fruita CO. it was used as a dirt bike , shuttle truck , fireworks platform , bar , and bedroom. returned to the rental company in vegas without question or a raised eyebrow.

Bought a 1 year old Civic back in 2007. 6 years of commuter use and now at 160,000km with no problems other than regular maintenance by the dealer.

maybe edit that bit out before the wife sees it.
We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

I always figured that buying a rental car would be like an arranged marriage to a hooker.

But,…….what some others have pointed out.
Don't rental places unload 'em for a new model year? So why not let the rental outfit take the drive-off-the-lot depreciation hit?
Plus limited mileage, regular maintanence. Extended warrenty maybe?
Craig how did the price of your Civic compare to private sales on the market?
