How so? Both cars same-ish hp/torque. Heard VW better sealed/quieter. Mazda quickened the rack to make steering feel better.

Felt a little sportier? But it wasn't by a huge margin.

I negotiated over email after a test drive and talking to the salesman in person. Good experience all around.

It's neck and neck IMHO. Agreed that the ergonomics on the VW were better (especially with the awful touchscreen on the 3  ), but the 3 was a more fun car to drive.

Don't know about VWs, but if you are taller than 6', Mazdas will probably tend to feel cramped.

There could be some deals over the next couple of months on 2015 models.

did you have a look at the subaru impreza? we bought one last year after looking at similar cars to what you have looked at and can say we have no complaints. As for the buying process we just knocked 5% of their offer and they accepted. we were happy.

The Civic should be out in the next month or so. It's supposed to have 5 door hatchback option that's based on the Euro version. There's also a new 1.5L Turbo engine. Don't know what the body/engine configurations will be.

huh, apparently we'll be (finally) getting a type-r as well. for reference, this current euro spec type r makes 306hp. bastards. what, they think we don't like fun in (north)america?

haha - best feature: instead of the econo button that regular civics have, this has the "R" button (for race, obviously):

total rice, but my affinity for the lowly civic runs deep.

Not so much that we don't like fun, but that market research suggests that people don't buy $50,000 USD Civics (est. per http://www.torquenews.com/). That's more expensive that all of the entry level Mercedes (CLA/B250/GLA) and on par with well optioned C-Class/Audi A4/BMW 3 series cars.

It's also more expensive than an STI, GTI and the Focus ST, and the North American Civic is purported to still be front wheel drive.

At risk of re-railing this thread- played with unhaggle.com. The reports looked realistic - anyone actually tried it?

As with all car threads, it took a left turn at "well this is my favorite car - you should try that" and never looked back.

I signed up the for the carcostcanada reports - all it really told me is that there is about 1500 of wiggle room between the invoice price and msrp on both cars I'm looking at. Unfortunately I need to wait for the system to load the September incentives to get a better idea of what I may be looking at.

But the e-mail every dealer in a 50km radius idea seems pretty appealing (I think that's basically what unhaggle does for you).

This time of year is tough. You could get a deal on stuff in inventory, or you could get the next greatest thing.

I've found that getting outside of the big city can help with the price. Dunno if that's just an Alberta thing though.
