I have searched and all I can find is info about getting a bike shipped over the border and ways to scam the system to save on duty. I am heading down this week to buy my new bike and am going to bring it back across with me. I have heard to take it for a ride get to get it dirty and say you brought it down etc. I don't want to tempt fate, I just want to pay my fees. I will have to pay HST I know, how much is duty on a complete bike? Anyone have an idea? I have googled and I can only find info from a few years ago prior to the hst etc.

Yeah I knew that, it's made in Taiwan. I just want to know if duty is like %40 or more like %5

The CBSA page you need:
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trade-commerce/tariff-tarif/2011/01-99/tblmod-eng.html

The document:
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trade-commerce/tariff-tarif/2011/01-99/ch87-t2011-eng.pdf

Go to page 87-19

Looks like 13% and then you'll pay HST on that too, I believe. Maybe you'll get a nice customs guy. Maybe not. I've never paid duty or tax on parts when I have driven them across and declared them myself. Looks like complete bikes get hit with the tariff.

What are you buying? Chances are that a local shop will be willing to work with you on pricing. I know Dunbar Cycles is very accommodating for price matching.

so you're not sure how much cheaper it is from the states but you're willing to pay a 13% premium on the bike + your travel time and costs?

i can almost guarantee that a local shop could match the total cost once you factor in the 13% levy, travel, and YOUR time invested.

Or come really close to the us price.
On a similar note I'm looking at a 2011 odyssey for the wife. Canadian msrp is $35k. The same van in the us is $37k!!!
Canadian retailers are figuring this whole currency thing out. Finally!
