I have been attempting to re-read Dune since there will be another attempt to make it a movie coming soon, but I haven't made it very far over a few months.

Balderdash! Tis' a page turner. Plow ahead. I've re-read it a few times over the decades.

Esoteric religious setup leads to face melting sci-fi action.

Resist the urge to read the other books in the series though. Spolier: After about 50 books (7?) Paul Atreides turns into Jaba the Hutt. Not joking.

I have resisted.  I have a buddy that has read them all and keeps suggesting them but I haven't gone there.  He suggested a Song of Ice and Fire to me way before the TV show too so he has some credibility.

Any bets on the quality of the movie?  It has been done before and failed IMO, but it could work now with better effects and time (2 movies) so I am hopeful.  I think it will either be fantastic or an utter failure.  No in-betweens.

The first book is the best.  The later books get into offspring and don't have the same grip.
