Books (not Boobs)

I read Ernest Cline's books, Ready Player One and Armada. They were entertaining, but they were like reading screenplays for Netflix-produced series. With the success of Stranger Things, I can see it happen.

I couldn't agree more with that.

I've spent the last month or two re-reading Hamilton's Commonwealth saga so as to read his latest two-part series.

Just on the last book of that and while I enjoy his writing a lot, I'm a bit bummed he's back in the Void and dealing with low-tech and 'magic' again.

I can't wait until I've forgotten the Culture series. Looking forward to re-reading it.

That's hilarious that this is the book being discussed, I just finished reading it a moment before seeing this post.

After reading the hugely entertaining Ready Player One I was hoping for more of the same- not so much. Armada's more of a young adult book, and not a particularly good one.

Ready Player One however was one of the most entertaining books I've ever read, and I highly recommend it. Especially if you grew up in the eighties.

The Void is a pretty neat concept, but it would be neat if it were meshed with the sci-fi a bit more. Once I'm done my current titles I'll check out that Hamilton book.

The Culture series! I need a little more time before I go back to that - it's still too fresh. I can probably re-read William Gibson's Sprawl and Bridge series now, although I may have parts of Neuromancer memorized.

rp1 movie should be interesting; w/ spielberg at the helm there will be no lack of resources (for better or for worse). just saw that armada is in development as well. got to wonder if optioning is in mind when stuff like this gets written.

been reading everything by carlton mellick for a while. he's a prolific bastard. so much fun. most are novella length quick reads; this is a solid read with a bit more heft:

How the hell did I not know there was a Ready Player One movie in production????? Note to self: "Get out more."

So bummed I stopped life and read the final 30% of the book in a day and a half.

I found a new book to add to the list of must reads, "The Righteous Mind" by Jonathan Haidt. It's getting close to being a decade old but seems even more relevant today.

I have started Dune. I remember having read a translation decades ago, now with the remake of a movie looming large I thought I might as well read the original. What a book. Wow.
