I read this:

It was a little heavier on brain stuff than I had anticipated. I thought it was going to be a little more useful to a starting guitarist. Nevertheless, it was interesting. And the take home lessons are: babysteps, persistence, improve your weak points, the strong ones will get better anyway.

Read that a long frickin time ago. Good stuff. I still remember Chapter 11 to this day.. big A-Ha! moment for me.

Fascinating book … but the second half would be pretty hard going if you aren't "right brained" and or don't have some background in probablility/statistics/math.

Everything - language, communication, reading/writing, genetics, quantum mechanics, astrophysics, commerce … is the study of information and efficiency of its acquisition, retrieval and storage.

I can't put this down.

I watched a documentary on the Essex once and it made me depressed for 2 days. That is an insane story, but I am not sure I could read it.

I watched a documentary on the Essex once and it made me depressed for 2 days. That is an insane story, but I am not sure I could read it.

It's well written, and the book covers as much of the general history of Nantucket whaling industry as it does the Essex ordeal.
