there's gotta be some sarcasm somewhere in this post :|

if your willing to spend $2G, the best laptop can be found here
We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

I tweaked it from stock, ending up costing me around two g's, but for what I use it for it is great

Macbook Pro for around $2000. The Core 2 Duo's just came out, so there's a nice little performance bump.
For more portability and toughness, go for a macbook. The tradeoff is a lesser videocard (worse for games) and a smaller screen. If you like games, or you tend to set up in one place for a long time and not move around a ton, the macbook pro is probably a better bet. Otherwise, macbook. They're based on the ibook design, which was pretty bombproof.

Norman's MBP was a very early Rev.A - the latest MacBook Pro's don't have the overheating issues and now include FW800.
For everyday surfing and email, the MacBook is a nice machine. Ultra-portable, nice touches like magnetic power adapter, small portable power-block, latch-less closure and front-row/remote - I'd get one if my 12-inch iBook didn't do the job well enough.
I'd save your $$ on a MacBook Pro and just get the MacBook. With the money you save you can get a sweet LCD, run dual monitors at home, and have something compact for when you need to work elsewhere.
The MacBook video cards aren't as good as the Pros, but they're more than enough for what most people will need.
Yeah like I said, there are ups and downs to both. Price diff on similarily speced machines is about $300. So portability vs screen size and video card performance, your call.
