There are hundreds of amazing sour beers out there. There are hundreds of pretty bad ones too, though. Definitely an important sector of good beer.

Last year's Advent calender sucked so there was no way I was buying another. A Nogne beer to start is a vast improvement over last year already.

Is there such a thing as a good sour beer? I've only had a few and they all made me want to punch a nun.

I bought a New Belgian Le Terroir (Dry Hopped Sour) a few days ago and it was enough to change my mind into liking at least that one. Although at $14 you'd be off encouraging a friend to buy and then trying out a glass sans risk.

A friend gave us this one for loaning out a bike with a motor. Day 1 coming out of the fridge right…

now.

A Norwegian sour ale brewed with barley and raw wheat. Pressed sea buckthorn fruits for the brash sourness.

I got the same Advent …gotta say that particular sour beer, smells like a urinal and therefore tastes like one. Never had one before,
But in the spirit of beer and xmas…I drank it . Hope its my last

Day 2. This one was okay but I wouldn't buy it. Let's call it average.
(sorry about the terrible pic, I didn't notice it was out of focus until the beer was gone. Can I blame the phone?)

Man.. so far this P49/Central City advent calendar is a massive disappointment. 4/5 days and it's all beers you can buy in variety or 6 packs for significantly less.

I'll post up the last 2 days of the Phillips case when I get home.

One was an average IPA and the other was a ginger beer.
Of the 4 days so far, I'd buy the first one, I'd drink the next too, and likely only have the ginger beer if I was having sushi.

I think the amenisiac is today. I know this because I'm on day 9.

Your calendar looks different than mine.

Whistler Brewing Co's Valley Trail Chestnut Ale is amazing. The guy that suggested it to me says they've produced it the last 3 seasons but this year is their best batch by far - I have to say it is amazing.

As for the seasonal calendar, my wife got me the Parallel 49 one. I've liked most of what it's offered so far but mine started out with a chocolate cherry concoction that tasted like cough syrup. Absolutely awful. That said it's gotten much better.

Yeah, I didn't get any chocolate or cherry out of that one, just a lot of sweetness. I hope the second collaboration one is better.

I hadn't had the P49 Dirty Filthy IPA or the CC Belgian before, which were pretty good.
